I think youll find bad points about every vehicle, and the MY15 model Dmax and MUXs are a decent vehicle. The wheel bearings also sounds strange; if they are done properly, you should have no issues for a lot longer than every couple of services. For me, this is not the biggest issue in the world (and I knew about it when I bought the car) as I dont use it too often to make or receive calls, but if you were using it for business purposes itd be the first thing you would rip out and replace. If it doesnt, the clutch is slipping and you probably need a new one. Overall though, Im pleased with the vehicle, and it is serving us well. Update Ive just heard that Bannister Law is investigating the Dmax and MUX cracked inner guards. Ive seen a couple of front differentials blow up off road and puncture the actual diff, and a few DPF issues, but for the most part they seem to have made a significant improvement. That sucks mate. If you are towing anything heavier than 2.5 tonne (which you probably shouldnt be with a Dmax anyway) you are going to feel it, substantially. In terms of the dual cab Utes on the market today, the Dmax is one of the best in terms of reliability. I keep GVM 400kg down from maximum of 3600kg. Re the cracks Great vehicle no major problems so far. Ive had numerous problems with mine so got rid of it. The ute will be out of warranty soon, and will get a LSD as a upgrade. However, Im not brand biased, or so attached to it that I fail to mention its shortcomings, and every single 4WD out there has at least a couple. If you can prove the paint wasnt done right from the factory they should have no leg to stand on. The better option is to get a locker, and replace it with something better, that will be useful off road. There must be hundreds of these that have failed by now. Id suggest you get something light and strong if you can, and monitor the body mounts carefully, and look for any cracks appearing. Ive towed a A-Van Aspire 499 (H/T), and while it is a light-weight unit, I always new it was on the back of the car, however I was never in a hurry to get to where I was going. Keep an eye on the body mounts; they are the primary cause of the body cracking issues. Would I look at alternatives? We have a 2018 DMax. I would be too! Catchcan from Flashlube.
